Video on The Critical Role of Faculty and Staff in Identifying Threats and Preventing Campus Violence available

On September 24, 2009, Dr. Marisa Randazzo presented training to over 250 people about identifying threats on campus and how to manage them. Her presentation covered campus violence, implications for prevention, an overview of campus threat assessment, and tips on de-escalating potentially violence situations. Also included in the video are presentations from Dr. Jerry Niles, Dean Emeritus in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and Dr. Gene Deisinger, the new Deputy Chief of Police and Director of Threat Management Services. Dr. Niles and Dr. Deisinger presented an overview of the Threat Assessment Team at Virginia Tech, information about what types of situations to refer to the team, and how to share situations with the team.

If you are concerned about a potentially threatening situation, please call the Virginia Tech Police at 540-231-6411. Information on the threat assessment team and additional offices you can contact if you are not comfortable contacting the police is also available.

Presentations and training related to threat assessment are available to interested groups on campus. Possible topics include an overview of the threat assessment team process, how to identify persons of concern, and how to managing disruptive or threatening behaviors.
